A Level 1 charger (1.4 kW) which is the standard household outlet takes approximately 48 hours for a full charge. A Level 2 charger (7.2 kW) can provide a full charge in about 9 hours and 35 minutes. Level 3 (50 kW) and 4 (100 kW) chargers can provide an 80% charge in 54 to 75 minutes. Times are not guaranteed and can vary.

With charging station apps like ChargeHub, PlugShare, Chargepoint, MyEVRoute, Electric Circuit and Flo, you’ll always find a station nearby. Plus, new locations are being added all of the time.

Many parking lots across Canada feature exclusive spots for your electric vehicle to park and charge. And depending on where you park, some of the charging can be free. Additionally, in some provinces, having a Green Vehicle license plate grants you access to convenient High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes as a solo driver.

The cost of charging an electric vehicle varies depending on the price of electricity in your province and which time of day you choose to charge. A helpful solution for owners to charge during off-peak hours is to set the charging system to accept a charge during this specific time frame.  All you have to do is set it and forget it.

Level 1 or 120-volt charging features a conventional three-prong plug that works with any properly grounded wall socket. This is the slowest type of charging and, depending on your battery capacity and model, may take up to 48 hours for a full charge.

Level 2 or 240-volt charging is common at most dedicated home and public charging stations. Charging will be at least twice as fast as Level 1. If you wish to install a charging station at home, it will require the same type of wiring as an electric stove or clothes dryer.

DC fast charging uses direct current (DC) rather than household alternating current (AC) and is very high-powered. This type of charging is commonly found only at public sites, often along highways, given the higher cost of installing dedicated high-powered lines.
